Kenyan pastor accused of Aussie con

The Nairobian reports…

“A preacher has found himself in trouble after allegedly conning a member of his church Sh150,000.

The court heard that between March 16 and April 14 in Kayole estate, Pastor Gerald Mwangi allegedly obtained the money from Joan Wairimu  pretending he could fly her to Australia on a scholarship.

Wairimu allegedly met Mwangi at their church in Kayole.

According to police, Mwangi told the congregation while preaching, that he could help his flock to fly abroad for studies.

Wairimu, then in the congregation, showed interest and called the pastor for inquiries.

The prosecution said Wairimu had paid the preacher more than Sh150,000 by April 14 to get the Aussie scholarship.

Mwangi allegedly demanded more money claiming it was not enough to ‘register’ her.

Mwangi denied the charge before Makadara senior principal magistrate Timothy Okello. He was released on Sh80,000 bail. His trial begins on August 1.”
