Pastor makes Trump behave

CNN reports…

“The pastor who hosted Donald Trump at her church in Flint, Michigan, interrupted the Republican presidential nominee during his speech Wednesday to ask him to refrain from attacking his rival Hillary Clinton.

“Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us for what we’ve done in Flint, not give a political speech,” Rev. Faith Green Timmons of the Bethel United Methodist Church told Trump after walking to the podium while Trump was speaking.

“OK. That’s good. Then I’m going back onto Flint, OK? Flint’s pain is a result of so many different failures,” Trump said.

Timmons, in a statement provided at the event, noted her church welcomes “all people.”

“This public event is open to all and today Donald Trump came to observe. Trump’s presence at Bethel United Methodist in no way represents an endorsement of his candidacy,” she had said.

On Thursday, Trump told Fox News “something was up” with Timmons, but he wasn’t bothered because “everyone plays their games.”

Trump was responding to the host’s question about whether he was “bothered” by the fact that she purportedly had written on Facebook (according to the Fox hosts, who noted it was later erased) that she hoped to “educate” Trump on what had been going on in Flint.

“She was so nervous, she was shaking. And I said, ‘wow, this was kind of strange.’ And then she came up. So she had that in mind, no question about it,” Trump said, adding that he suspected that he might face an unfriendly reception at the church.”

  1. Wazza, Greg secretly likes the Donald. And knows that he’s actually very sensitive,so he was upset that the Donald might have had his feelings hurt.

Seriously, he’s probably right. Trump would have finished his speech. She knew it would be a great TV moment probably.

When Greg is the vicar of a church i wonder who he’ll let speak.

  2. Greg the reason you gave for churches staying out of politics is :

it’s just embarrassing when a pastor triers to big-note themselves in such a crass way

What was so crass about it ? She politely came up to him and asked him to desist. Would it have been so crass if she said it to the Bible-college student when he was giving the tithe-talk?

I interpreted your comments as meaning that no one should tell a powerful person what to do, even in their own house or organisation, even if they are out of line. It is just rude, and to avoid this possibility churches should not ever invite a politician or even comment on anyone powerful.

  3. @Greg,
I don’t like politicians speaking in churches either.

I don’t even think they need to be invited to speak at building dedications either.

  4. I wouldn’t agree with your analysis there Wazza. Like I said, Dobson wasn’t originally supporting Trump at all. But he won the republican nomination. To Dobson, he’s all about supreme court judges, because he sees that as more important in the long run than a President.

Supreme court judges are in for as long as they want. Dobson whether you agree with him or not, is concerned with getting conservative supreme court judges, because their decisions affect things that Dobson is interested in.

As for the quote from Anonymous – yes, he has supported him. He sees Trump as being better than Clinton.

Wazza, most evangelicals were originally not in favor of Trump. They went for Cruz and Ben Carson.

Someone like me? I don’t think the President has to be the Pastor in chief. I didn’t like Cruz, had respect for Carson. But from a long time ago, I would pick Trump – because I thought he had a better chance of winning than Hillary. I can’t stand Hillary. But she’s like Obama – he was the first black, she would be the first woman, and they are backed by the media, hollywood and the people running the Universities. So, they will be extremely hard to beat.

Most people vote emotionally. Lots of people voted for obama because he was black. Very simple.
And lots of women especially will vote for Hillary because they want to see the ultimate glass ceiling broken.

You disparage rightwingers for going for the strong leader. But left-wingers? Why didn’t they go for Bernie?

Its obvious that the fight against Bernie was dirty. He should be super mad about Hillary and the people behind her. But now, he’s endorsed her. Why? Because of the alternative.

Same with Dobson. He isn’t weak-kneed at all. He just doesn’t want HIllary getting in.

If Trump’s opponent had conservative values, Dobson would drop Trump in a flash.

    I don’t worship Trump.

I like him though. I don’T know anyone else who could have done what he has done.

You think he’s dumb. If he were dumb he wouldn’t still be around making Hillary nervous.

  5. Dora’s brother Greg thinks for some reason power should be deferred to just because it is power

Really? Where did I say that? I said churches should stay out of politics…trump should never have been given the opportunity to stand up and speak in a church.

  6. But why do you defend Dobson. “He didn’t want to do it your. Honour but they made him’. When you worship Trump?

I don’t understand the right wing mind. It just seems to go all week kneed and girly when some supposed tough leader shows up

  7. From Time mag

“I have decided to endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States, not only because of my great concern about Hillary Clinton,” Dobson said in a statement. “I am supporting Mr. Trump primarily because I believe he is the most capable candidate to lead the United States of America in this complicated hour

  8. Once again Wazza you are completely wrong.

First, you should read everything Dobson has said about Trump. He didn’t want to endorse him at all. He wasn’t swayed with power at all. He wasn’t even sure he could believe Paul White’s story.
He would have preferred a much more moral “Christian” candidate to endorse.

He doesn’t really like Trump that much.

So, have you read everything he’s written about the election? Obviously not, if you smeared him of being swayed by power.

If you had read anything about Dobson you would know its all about the next President appointed supreme court judges. That’s the main thing.

He has seen the list of supreme court judges Trump has said he would want to appoint, and he was happy with that. He also likes Trump’s vice President.

Not sure what websites you read, but if you actually took the time to read what Dobson has said, you’ll see that he is reluctantly endorsing Trump mostly becuase of the future appointment of supreme court judges. And he puts more hope in who Trump puts forward as opposed to Hillary.

    That’s basically it.

Has nothing to do with power.

Total misrepresentation and misinterpretation. What looney leftie websites have you been reading??

  9. One of the distinctive things about the Jewish and Christian religions was the idea that power and influence was different to truth. Just because someone had power didn’t mean that his ideas or views were more valid than the average person – in fact more often than not they were invalid. A crazy bearded prophet with no more following than the average facebook page could walk into a kings court and tell him he was totally irrational and against God.

Yet today we see most of the Christians lining up behind power and defenestrating their values and beliefs in the process. Dora’s brother Greg thinks for some reason power should be deferred to just because it is power – making us wonder whether he would say the same to a Daniel or Isaiah. Charlie seems to think that because Trump has more ‘influence’ than the people commenting on this forum that his views are somehow more important or that others have no right to criticise.

The way that Evangelicals leaders have fallen over themselves to endorse Trump not because of his Christian values but because of his power makes the independent observer want to puke. Like James Dobson saying that Trump had recently accepted Christ – supposedly his spiritual adviser was Paula White the prosperity televangelist. Surely Trump is one of the most unchristian leaders ever to be considered for the oval office. When asked what his favourite Bible verse was he nominated “An eye for an eye”. If Dobson is this dumb he will fall for every travelling pentecostal charletan that pitches a tent in his town. But you can see the same thought processes occuring in the regular commenters here – falling in behind a strong leader and switching off the critical faculties to praise the great leader.

  11. Just watched that video. Doesn’t seem like that big a deal to me.
If the Pastor didn’t like those comments – it’s her church. I have no problem with her interrupting him.

Likewise while I don’t like politics in church, Catholic priests have spoken about political issues many times. And if you don’t think Clinton, Obama and black preachers have spoken politically in church before then you really need to be more aware.

As for Wazza2`s “Powerful” speech, I’m not sure where that came from. Is Trump powerful? Is clnton? Is the CEO of Dunkin Donuts? Depends on your definition.

But successful? Depends again. But Trump has plenty of money, has buildings named after him, beat over 15 other republican candidates some of whom had vast sums of money at their disposal.

I’d say whether you like him or not he’s done well in real estate, business, books, entertainment, and ask Jeb Bush and Cruz whether or not he’s successful in politics.

More than that ask Hillary Clinton. She’s scared to death she’s going to lose against him.

Every day i look at the news i see articles written by young left wing “journalists” suggesting he is over and terrible and has no chance. But he’s still there, and tied, not far from or leading Hillary in the polls – if you believe in polls.

If by powerful you mean influence – he has more influence than anyone commenting here.

And I predict he’ll be the President.

  12. He is only powerful because people believe he is powerful. And people believe he’s powerful because everywhere he goes and in everything he does he spins a story about how powerful he is.

This is the true rudeness spinning a story about how powerful you are and how bad your enemies are in a church.
